The Story behind the Mantra – Be Here Now

Posted: by Jo Monday, 29 July 2019 @ 14:35

One of our new designs for Autumn is a Disc necklace, engraved with the words, ‘Be Here Now’. It is accompanied by a card with the mantra,

'Where am I? Here. When is it? Now’

One of the key purposes behind Mantra Jewellery is to encourage us to be more present and in the moment - and this necklace is designed to help with this.

If you’re like me, you’ll play with your necklace through the day - hold onto it, fiddle with it - as jewellery is so tactile. And as you do so - bring to mind its mantra.

With this necklace, ask yourself if you are really HERE, in this moment? Or have you been thinking about something which happened yesterday, or fretting about something that hasn’t yet happened? Is your mind distracted by what you still need to do, or rehashing something you have already done? Stop, and just be here now.

We all have so much going on in our lives, and so much information in our heads, that it is hard to shut everything out to really focus on the person or object in front of us. Whether we’re talking to our kids about their day, catching up with a friend on the phone, or going for a lovely walk in the park on our way home - our minds are full of noise and distractions that prevent us truly giving our full attention to what is in front of us.

Mindfulness is simply a mental and emotional discipline of being absolutely absorbed in the moment, and paying proper attention to it. Not allowing our minds to wander onto something else, or our attention to get distracted.

As soon as you realise that your mind has wandered - bring it straight back to the present. Use those questions – ‘Where am I? Here. When is it? Now’ - to remind you of the absolute simplicity of thought required. It is simply about being present and in the moment.

This necklace, along with‘Be still, be present, be mindful’, is intended as an aid to mindfulness. Choose it for yourself as mindful reminder, or gift it to someone who gets easily distracted.
