Mantra
Jewellery is honoured to be working with the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), who are leading a movement against suicide, the single biggest killer
of men under 45.
Two new men’s bracelets have been released,
in Leather and Stainless Steel, pre-engraved with positive mantras. 25% of the
selling price of each goes directly to support CALM’s work.
The first says simply, ‘Stay calm’ – a
reminder not to let panic or despair overwhelm you.
Many people will experience overwhelming
negative feelings in their lives, or times when they don't feel mentally strong
or emotionally resilient. It can be easy to start to panic, and think there is
no hope. If those feelings start to become overwhelming, or take control of
what you’re thinking, then it can be dangerous. Don’t let your mind run wild –
find someone to talk to.
CALM believes that most suicidal people don’t
actually want to die, they just want to remove themselves from an unbearable
situation, and stop the pain. It’s a decision made when other choices seem
impossible, and the whole of life feels hopeless. Often in this situation, you
can feel that other people will be better off without you, but this is never
the case. Suicide has a devastating effect on the people left behind, both
family, friends and whole communities.
The second bracelet has the simple but
powerful word, ‘Strength’, engraved onto the Stainless Steel, which represents
the mantra, ‘I am strong, not silent’.
The
mythic appeal of the ‘strong silent type’ has been around for years, from John
Wayne through to Gary Cooper. Men were admired who conveyed their resolve and
power through deliberate silence. But silence is not a strength, but a
weakness. Bravery comes in talking and engaging and sharing – not in staying silent
CALM provides a hotline for men 365 days a
year to break the silence and reach out for help, as well as running campaigns
to change attitudes towards mental health struggles for men. They spread their
message in universities, pubs, clubs and prisons across the country – so that
people feel empowered to share their experiences and get the help they need
before they reach the point of crisis.
CALM also campaigns with media partners,
brands and ambassadors to spread awareness of suicide and its devastating
impact, and challenge male stereotypes to encourage positive behavioural change
and help-seeking behaviour.
The bracelets are £35 each, and come in Black
or Blue, with 25% of the selling price donated to CALM (Registered Charity
Number 1110621).
Give one to a mate going
through a tough time; your brother or a loved one in need of support; or for
yourself, to show your support for CALM.
