I remember leaving school and thinking I’d never find
friends as special as the ones I already had, then I went to university and met
the five most incredible women, thinking I’d ‘completed’ friendship I then
moved again only to meet ‘my wife’ housemate and bestie extraordinaire. As we get older, jobs change and so do our postcodes, babies arrive and so do our calendars, but one thing stays the same, those precious friendships.
I can't help but think friendship is a kind of
magic, I don’t know how you find each other in this universe, but when you do,
in the words of Baz Luhrman…
‘Understand that friends come and go, but for
the precious few you should hold on’
Here are my friendship moments that you'll relate to if you're long distance best friends...
When you can’t say goodbye

You’ll stick to a ‘see you soon’ or completely ignore the
fact that your living arrangements are changing, because making it final is
just too hard.
But then you get back together

It’s the scene that makes me cry every time, because it
reminds me of the excitement of the stars aligning and you all being in the
same place at the same time. Cue screams and hyperventilation!
Your catch ups are scheduled

You put specific time aside for a good old catch up, it's in the diary, the wine is poured and you will not be disturbed!
The sixth sense

between the lines of their latest social update) but you just know something's
up, you’re calling them asap!
When your friend is hurt

You were right, something is up, well hell hath no fury like
a friend scorned, and if someone’s hurt your bestie then you’re more hurt than
you would be if it’d happened to you.
The rest of your lives

You may not live together, you
may not be in the same city/country/continent but with true friendships that
doesn’t matter. You may not speak for months, but when you do it’ll be like
nothing has changed – because soul mates are for life!
